Entertainment in 2012, the two returned from a vacation and realized they’d both grown out their facial hair. While ZZ Top is among the most successful rock bands in history, they’re perhaps best known for the signature black sunglasses and long beards worn by Hill and Gibbons, which were introduced in the 1970s. He was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee band ZZ Top, with whom he played bass and provided an unmistakable profile with that long beard. Hill and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. Dusty Hill died suddenly on July 28 at the age of 72. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. The band’s 1976 “Worldwide Texas Tour,” with its iconic Texas-shaped stage festooned with cactuses, snakes and longhorn cattle, was one of the decade’s most successful rock tours. The band went on to chart the hits “Tush” in 1975, “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’” in 1983, and “Rough Boy” and “Sleeping Bag” in 1985.
